Website down checker

Paste a website address and see if it is down for everyone or just for you. Check up to ten sites at once. No signup.

Is it down for everyone, or just for you?

This check runs from our server, not your computer. If it says a site is up but it won't open for you, the problem is probably on your side: your Wi-Fi, a VPN, a browser extension, or a stale DNS cache. Try another network or a phone on mobile data.

If it says the site is down here too, it is down for everyone, or at least for a lot of people.

What each result means

Up: the server answered with a normal page. Slow means it took more than four seconds.

Error: the server answered, but with an error code. A 5xx error is the server or the code. A 404 means the page isn't there. A 403 often means a firewall is blocking automated checks, so the site may be fine for people.

Down: no answer. The note says why: the domain doesn't resolve (often an expired domain or broken DNS), the connection was refused, the certificate is invalid, or nothing replied within eight seconds.

Checking several client sites at once

If you build sites for clients, paste up to ten addresses at once. It's a quick way to see which past projects still work before you send them to a new client as examples.

This page only checks when you press the button. It doesn't watch the sites for you, and it doesn't store what you paste.

When a client's site is down

Check what changed last: a plugin update, a DNS move, an unpaid hosting bill, a domain renewal. Tell the client you are looking at it before you know the cause. A short message early is better than a long one late.

Want this checked every day?

Bowerdeck keeps a list of every site you have built and checks each one daily. When one goes down it drops off your public portfolio and you are told, so a client never clicks a dead example. See how it works.
